Stanley J. Kanach

d. August 26, 2004

Stanley J. Kanach, age 86 years, of Branchburg, NJ, died peacefully on August 26, 2004 at Somerset Medical Center.

A lifelong Somerset County resident, he was born in Flagtown, NJ, September 10, 1917, the son of John and Amelia Kanach. He had lived and farmed in Branchburg for the past 60 years.

Stanley was the owner and operator of River Lea Farm. After the main barns were destroyed by fire in 1955, he built a state-of-the-art dairy operation, which was often used as a showcase for hosting foreign ambassadors, senators, governors and other federal and state dignitaries. The farm was known for its meticulous upkeep and appearance and was often shown in books and advertising used in promoting New Jersey agriculture. In addition to receiving the prestigious Dairy of Distinction Award and numerous honors for progressive soil conservation practice, River Lea Farm hosted the 1997 N.J. Agricultural Legislator's tour, and several Somerset County Dairy Open Houses.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Belle Mead Co-Op, Somerset County Board of Agriculture and the New Jersey Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Kanach, two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Leacy Kanach of Glenwood, MD and David and Paula Kanach of Branchburg, NJ and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 9:00 am in Mary, Mother of God Church, Triangle Road, Hillsborough, NJ. Entombment will be in Somerset Hills Mausoleum, Basking Ridge, NJ. Calling hours will be Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
