Ruth Claus, age 82, died Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at her home in Readington Township, NJ, surrounded by her family.
Born on a working farm in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 26, 1937, Ruth was the daughter of the late George and Viola (Lentz) Schuh.
Ruth was a dedicated lifelong learner and avid reader who highly valued education. Ruth held a Bachelor of Arts in English from Indiana State University and a Master of Arts in Communication from Purdue University.
Ruth was also an accomplished Master Gardener who treasured developing and maintaining her own gardens, as well as sharing her love and knowledge of gardening with others. Ruth served as President of the Master Gardeners of Somerset and Hunterdon Counties from 2006 to 2008, and in 2018 was recognized for her 17 years of volunteer service. Ruth created a series of lectures on specialized gardening topics and presented them to over 7,000 people throughout New Jersey.
Ruth was predeceased by her four siblings – George Edward and Frederick William Schuh, Gladys Buddenbaum, and Margaret Stinson. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill, her son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Tracy Claus of Summit, NJ, her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Erin Claus of Lambertville, NJ, and her six dear grandchildren Abigail, Emma, Isabel, Anneliese, Bailey and Molly.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be scheduled at a later date, under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
