Renee Hertha Buckwalter died May 18, 2004 in Cummington, Mass., where she lived with her daughter Melinda Buckwalter. She was 80.

She was born in Philadelphia to Vermerel de Cleyre and Hertha Behr and was the granddaughter of Voltairine de Cleyre, an anarchist/feminist poet. She grew up in Bucks County, Pa.

She was an executive secretary at Fischer & Porter, a scientific instrument company and worked for Pearl Buck's Welcome House. She later worked for The Writer's Digest in Cincinnati, Ohio, for Akzo Engineering Plastics in Neshanic and for Hunterdon Medical Center.

Mrs. Buckwalter was an early and longtime member of the Hunterdon County Arts Center and Center Stage. She was involved in the Cincinnati Nature Center in Ohio and was a founding member of Citizens for Parkland in Raritan Township, a group that advocates land preservation.

Her first husband, Frank Mundorf, died in 1978; her second husband, Geoffrey Buckwalter, in 2003; and her son, Kent Mundorf, in 1979.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her sister, Fedora Ruth Benish; her brother, Franklin de Cleyre; and a granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in East Amwell on Sunday, June 6 at 1:30pm under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
