Norman Gilbert (Gil) Tallamy

August 18, 1927 — April 8, 2020

Norman Gilbert (Gil) Tallamy, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 from natural causes, at the Hunterdon Care Center, Flemington, NJ.

Gil, the youngest of four children, was born on August 18, 1927, to William and Cornelia Miller Tallamy, in Point Pleasant, NJ. He graduated from North Plainfield High School, NJ.

As a young man, Gil had a passion for horses. He owned and trained horses to perform, winning many awards in showmanship. He was employed early on, as one of three original therapists by the Walter D. Matheny School for Paralysis Correction in Far Hills, NJ. He then worked at the Children's Country Home in Westfield, NJ as a hydro-therapist, treating polio patients using the Sister Kenny Method. Handicapped individuals always held a special place in Gil's heart. Shortly after, Gil married his beloved wife, Elisabeth (Betty) Gillings Tallamy, of Cranford, NJ, on August 18, 1951. They celebrated 68 years of marriage.

A hard-working entrepreneur, Gil decided to begin his own concrete pool construction company, specializing in residential, commercial and equestrian pools. He continued this line of work for 56 years before retiring.

“High View Acres”was the name he appointed to the Tallamy homestead, his custom ranch he lovingly built in Ringoes, NJ, completing it in 1966. Here is where Gil and Betty settled and raised their seven children. Gil was known for his beautiful landscaping talent and creative stone work in and around the home. He planned annual family vacations to Beach Haven, where he shared his love for boating, surf and bay fishing with his children. Gil was always the life of the party and his gift for story-telling amused many for decades.

Serving over decades in youth ministries, Gil was a very active member of the Presbyterian Church, namely the Wilson Memorial Church in Watchung, NJ., the Reaville Presbyterian Church in Reaville, NJ and the Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ringoes, NJ.

Gilbert will be lovingly remembered by Betty, his wife, residing in Flemington, NJ. Three sons; Glenn Tallamy (Donna), of Phillipsburg, NJ, Gary Tallamy of Bloomsbury, NJ, and Russell Tallamy (Melissa) of Limerick, Pa. remember him. Three daughters: Geniene Lorenz (John) of Newark, DE., Dawn Falzone (Mark) of Dayton, TN., and Kathleen Torrone (Mike) of Dallas, Ga., recall the energetic father he was. Gilbert also leaves a legacy of fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, five nieces and nephews. He will be missed by Dorothy Cynthia Bartlett, sister-in-law of Bound Brook, NJ., and James Agnew, Colonel at US Army retired (Karen) son-in-law of FL.

Gil was predeceased by his parents William and Cornelia (Miller) Tallamy, sisters Helen Tallman, Ruth Tallamy, brother William (Sonny) Tallamy and his eldest daughter Gail Tallamy Agnew.

Arrangements and Interment will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
