Deceased Name: Howard R. Higgins -- was an auto mechanic

Howard R. Higgins, 84, of Flemington died Wednesday, Feb. 7, in Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Township.

He was an automobile mechanic and motor inspector at Melson Service Center in New Hope, Pa., retiring in 1983.

Born April 13, 1916, in Locktown, N.J., he was a son of the late John R. and Louise Hoppock Higgins. He resided in Flemington for most of his life.

He served in the Marines during World War II.

He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 159 in Flemington.

He is survived by his wife, the former Rose Tirpok; three sons, Wayne of Neptune, N.J., Neil of Broadway, and Thomas of Frenchtown; a daughter, Susan Hanna of Easton; a sister, Eleanor Flacco in Ohio; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Magdalen Cemetery, Flemington. Call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St., Flemington.
