H. Alan Sutphin, age 90 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at his residence.

Born in Raritan Township, NJ, August 15, 1917, he was the son of the late Howard C. and Laura Ent Sutphin.

He was a 1935 graduate of Flemington High School, Flemington, NJ, and a graduate of Trenton State College, Ewing, NJ.

Mr. Sutphin was a librarian for the Hunterdon County Library where he often drove the Bookmobile, and a self-employed farmer.

Mr. Surphin was a member of the Flemington Baptist Church, where he was a choir member and former choir director. He was a former member of the Oddfellows Lodge, Ringoes, NJ, the Flemington Kiwanis Club, and was an avid bicyclist. He was former director of the Amwell Valley Childrens Choir, and served on the Hunterdon Central High School Board of Education from 1956-1978.

His first wife, Elizabeth Everitt Sutphin, died in 1981. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Erck Sutphin; a daughter, Janice Sutphin Lowstuter, of Golden, CO; a son, Norman A. Sutphin, of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Robert Alan Lowstuter of Denver, CO, and Derek William Lowstuter of Fort Collins, CO; and his expected great-grandson, Alan Grant Lowstuter.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11 AM in the Flemington Baptist Church, 170 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Amwell Ridge Cemetery, Larison's Corner, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 5-8 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
