Edith Lorna Newman Vermeulen, age 89 years, of Neshanic Station, NJ, died on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at her residence.

Born in Buffalo, NY, February 28, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Edith Tuthill Newman. She had resided in Neshanic Station, NJ for the past 52 years.

Edith earned a degree in Sociology from the University of Buffalo, and later completed a Masters in Social Work at Rutgers University. Edith was employed by Branchburg Township, NJ as a social worker from 1973-1983. Prior to 1973, Edith served as the Branchburg Township Welfare Director. Edith also worked for the township as a school bus driver and attendence officer. If someone needed help, Edith was there. Edith was a Red Cross social worker during World War II, in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Edith was a valued member of the Neshanic United Methodist Church.

Edith's wonderful laugh, beautiful smile, and great sense of humor will be missed by all. Her devotion to her family, countless pets, and community was boundless.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, J. Peter Vermeulen; her children; Barbara Reilly, of Newtown, CT, Nancy Vermeulen, of Neshanic Station, NJ, Jim Vermeulen, of Syracuse, NY, Wendy V. Halle, of Whitehouse Station, NJ, and Jeff Vermeulen, of Neshanic Station, NJ; her grandchildren; Megan, Caragh, Amanda, Evan, and Casey; and great granddaughters, Christina and Emma Kate.

Graveside Services in Neshanic Cemetery will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
